German term

Schleppstickstoff

German to English Tech/Engineering Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
This term occurs in the following context "Über das Rotameter werden etwa 2 m³/h *Schleppstickstoff* in den Behälter eingespeist." It occurs in a subsection entitled "Zugabe von Methanol aus IBC".

Discussion

Herbmione Granger Aug 12, 2018:
That's not the same as blanketing. Blankets don't move.
Edith Kelly Aug 12, 2018:
technically blanketing with an inert gas, here nitrogen.
Herbmione Granger Aug 12, 2018:
From the title Zugabe von Methanol aus IBC It sounds like this is happening:
https://www.mvsengg.com/products/others/n2-methanol/
Here Nitrogen gas is used as a carrier gas which reduces consumption of methanol.

In particular, the present invention is directed to an improvement of an evaporator in which a liquid agent especially a flammable and corrosive liquid agent is evaporated within a sealed container by feeding at a constant flow rate a carrier gas into the container accommodating the liquid agent, and then the generated vapor is discharged from the container by the carrier gas.
Edith Kelly Aug 12, 2018:
herbalchemist no, you cannot as the nitrogen is used for blanketing, that is obvious
Herbmione Granger Aug 12, 2018:
Hi Sarah Pretty sure we would simply say "nitrogen" in EN. Can you give a description/summary of what's going on?

entraining nitrogen

This is suction filtered, washed with acetonitrile (260 mL, cooled to 0-5 0 C) washed and dried overnight at 45 0 C in the VDO using entraining nitrogen. Thus, a total of 424.3 g of N- (2-bromo-6-fluorophenyl) -N '- [2-methoxy-5- (trifluoromethyl) phenylJ- urea as a solid, corresponding to 99.2% of theory. https://patents.google.com/patent/EP1893587A1/en

The crystalline product obtained is isolated by centrifugation with cold acetonitrile (twice ca. 13 l) and dried at 45 ° C in the VDO using entraining nitrogen dried (approximately 3.5 h). https://patents.google.com/patent/DE102012101680A1/en

This isn't my specialty at all. It could also be "entrained nitrogen." The methanol is passed through suitable indoor piping to the furnace. With a pressurized gas system, a portion of the nitrogen becomes entrained in the methanol and the entrained nitrogen has an adverse effect on the performance of flowmeters in the system. The gas accumulates as bubbles in the flowmeter causing the float of the flowmeter to move erratically and promoting erroneous flow readings. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/5174944.html

agree Herbmione Granger : I think "nitrogen (for use as carrier gas for methanol)," but I would like more info.

nitrogen blanketing

one of very many examples:

This is common practice for the application you describe though more context would be useful.
