Italian term

messa a riposo

COVID-19 Italian to English Bus/Financial Manufacturing
Hi, I'm looking for suggestions for the translation of "la messa a riposo dei lavoratori tramite la "cassa integrazione"" in connection with the Italian CONVID-19 measures. I presume this is just referring to furlough but I have used "furlough" to translate disoccupazione parziale. Any suggestions?

It's interesting how the word "furlough" has crossed the Atlantic as a result of the virus. I was chatting to my brother in the UK a couple of days ago, and he dropped it into conversation. I said oh, I didn't know British people used that word, and he said they do now.

That's the term that came to mind for me too. Thanks!

agree mrrafe : In US, furlough usually is temporary but often is total, not partial. Layoff usually is plural - "layoffs of workers." Alternatively for a group of workers as a collective noun, "dismissal of."

thanks mrrafe
agree philgoddard : I think you have to say "temporary layoff", since "layoff" is usually permanent. http://www.dictionary.com/e/furlough-vs-layoff/

agree elisac2288gm (X) : I would say temporary dismissal of workers or layoff, I would point out the "temporary" concept.
