oil spill modelling
The wind data is generated by interpolating multiple-satellite observations to fill in the temporal and spatial data gaps of individual-satellite samples and reduce the subsampling alias and random errors. The spill model reads spatially and temporally varying winds with values every six hours for the same period as current data

Aliasing: In signal processing and related disciplines, aliasing is an effect that causes different signals to become indistinguishable (or "aliases" of one another) when sampled. en.wikipedia.org
Note that although this talks specifically in the field of electronic sampling, the same principle obtains in statistical sampling too, although the reference to 'spectre' may no longer be relevant. I suspect the use of 'repli' / 'repliement' is all that is needed in this field in FR.
This other reference, more related to statistics, may offer some understanding:

Discussion
In statistical analysis, subsampling per se is fairly unlikely to cause bias; however, 'aliasing' is a common problem with various types of sampling, in various fields.
