Wyraz "gun" oznacza broń palną dowolnego kalibru - od najmniejszego "pistoleciku" https://histmag.org/2.7mm-Kolibri-pistolet-miniaturowy-Video... aż do moździerza kalibru 914 mm (36 inch)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_David .

Wyraz "pattern" dotyczy wzoru na tapecie, tkaninie itp.

Określenie "gun pattern" oznacza tapetę albo tkaninę ze wzorem jakiegoś typu broni palnej, np.: https://www.shutterstock.com/pl/search/gun pattern .

Możliwe, że ktoś z twoich znajomych jest kolekcjonerem broni palnej. Jeżeli tak, to sugeruję dopytać, co myśli o wyrazie "pattern" w tym kontekście.

M1930 is the name of a rifle. Here, it is the model/pattern/variant of 1930, which is not the same as M1930.

The famous American rifle M16 came into service in 1964, for example, so it is the pattern of 1964, not M1964.

Russian Weapons Naming Convention / part 2 "In our example, the Russian Mosin Nagants were never officially called "M91" or "M91/30" or "M" anything, but the naming convention has been applied to the rifle type by small arms collectors, historians, and to some degree, the need to have clear model designations for international trade. Russian Weapons Naming Convention / part 1 "M + date"

"In the US and most of the firearms collector community worldwide. we call these the variants rifles Mosin-Nagant M91 or M1891 or M91/30. The "M" that we attach to the designation is inherited from international naming convention meaning "Model of". A Mosin Nagant M91 for example, is a "Mosin Nagant model of 1891", a Mosin Nagant M91/30 would be a "Mosin Nagant Model of 1891/1930". The second date number is universally accepted in international convention as a model variant descriptor. Usually, a second date in a designation means the rifle was refined, changed or otherwise altered to the degree that it warranted a new designation to set it apart from previous version of the weapon. The M91/30 is a good example, as is the Mosin Nagant M91/59. In the SKS world we have Yugoslavian rifles named M1959, and a major variant called M59/66, meaning the upgrade program began in 1966, and altered the rifles of Model 1959.

jeszcze takie wygrzebałem On December 23rd, 1930, the Revolutionary Military Council of the Soviet Union adopted a resolution to test new small arms at the Vistrel Marksmanship School's range. The tests were conducted on January 7, 1931. In attendance were Marshals Voroshilov, Tukhachevsky and Uborevich. In his report, Marshal Uborevich noted the high potential for a pistol designed by Fedor Tokarev based on proven Colt-Browning design principles: "In the course of testing the prototype produced quite satisfactory results for combat suitability, reliability and convenient handling. So I consider it possible to adopt this pistol for the army." A few weeks later, on February 13th, 1931, the Revolutionary Military Council ordered 1,000 Tokarev pistols for troop trials. The official designation for the pistol was "7.62mm pistolet obrazets 1930 goda" (7.62mm pistol, M1930), but were more commonly known as the "Tula-Tokarev" or TT-30, as they were made in the Tula Ordnance Factory to Tokarev's design. As such, the pistol was adopted as standard for the Red Army.

Miały oznaczenie "mark", w skrócie "Mk". Niby nie odnosi się to do roku produkcji i nie do karabinu czy pistoletu, ale zawsze warto się zastanowić, czy wprowadzenie takiego skrótu, który raczej każda osoba interesująca się militariami powinna znać, nie będzie niezłym rozwiązaniem :)
Natomiast amerykański skrót to samo "M".
