Thank you for any help with this little phrase:

Context:

J'ai même pensé à aller aux urgences mais étant sûre qu'ils allaient me garder, ne fût-ce qu'en observation et je ne voulais pas Je me suis réveillée dans la nuir (+/- 19h après l'injection) j'ai passé +/- 4 heures à avoir des douleurs terribles dans le bras, l'aisselle, irradiant en pinces autour de mon thorax.

The patient describes having been awoken during the night with sharp and clamping pains in the arms, armpits and chest, but didn't want to go to hospital. the pain was for 4 hours.

I was loathe to go for a "dictionary translation", but then I saw that the example referred to a pain sensation.

I suppose you could also use something less literal like "tightening around my chest" for the "en pinces" part.

Tricky! Tried to come up with an answer that fits the context. Hope it helps.

agree Bourth : That's certainly how I interpret it, seeing 'pinces' as 'pincements' or 'pinçage' (think 'tomatoes').
