لقد عدت التربية البيئية للطفل، من العوامل الأساسية في التنشئة الاجتماعية، لما لهذا العامل من تأثير مباشر في ثقافة الطفل، وبلورة قيم محصلته الثقافية، عبر زيادة وعيه البيئي، وترسيخ قيم البيئة في سلوكه، لتصبح قيماً ثقافية في أعمال هذا السلوك، تنعكس بالنتيجة على تصرفه البيئي، وعلى طبيعة البيئة، وعلى بنيته الثقافية..

ومن أساسيات نجاح التربية البيئية للطفل عبر هذه الاتجاهات، ان تبدأ وتنشط بالسلوك العملي، لا بالإرشاد والنصح والتوجيه..

ان يقوم الأطفال والتلاميذ بأنفسهم بمشروعات علمية وتربوية تهدف إلى معرفة توازن البيئة وحمايتها بجمع معلومات وحقائق البيئة، وتبويبها وتصنيفها تحت إشراف المدرسة، أو الأهل في البيت، عن تلوث الماء، أو الهواء، أو التصحر، أو الآثار السلبية لبعض أنواع التكنولوجيا، وكذلك يمكن القيام بمشروعات تربوية داخل المدرسة نفسها، مثل تشجير حديقة المدرسة
