Now, this is a tricky one because it concerns a reality which does not apply in Greece. People don't leave their correspondence in the mailbox to be picked up by the mailman for mailing (as for example in the US).

The key words here are "waiting to reach" the hands of lovers and bill collectors", meaning they were placed there to be picked up for mailing. So, definitely "εισπράκτορας".

Furthermore, people in the US pay their bills by checks which can be mailed to the bill collector.
