When someone uses the word “tack,” they are most likely referring to the number generated on an Inkometer that is an indication of how sticky an ink is. The tack value of an ink is important in multicolor printing since wet ink films are applied one on top of the other, often with only fractions of a second elapsing between colors. In order to trap properly, the first ink(s) must be stickier than subsequent inks, in order to grab onto them and hold them as the sheet progresses through the press.
