Until some decades ago, markets were rather isolated. Contracting a native speaker of the target (foreign) language was not easy or practical. Also, we can expect it was rather expensive. In a global market, it is easier to contract native speakers. It's also about quality. As a rule, native speakers translate better. It matters, especially if the text requires a strong feeling of nuances. And let's not forget that for some pairs machine translation does a good job as well. A better strategy might be to specialise, so that you are able to translate types of texts that few other translators can. ▲ Collapse | | | William Yang China Local time: 01:52 Membro (2021) inglês para chinês + ... I teach translation at university and always advise my students to translate into their native language. I can't speak for other teachers, though.

Well, I can assure you that unjustified negative feedback and having one's translations destroyed by a poor quality proofreader is all part of the business, and always has been. I'm not in a position to judge the quality of your Chinese translations, but if you're concerned that the negative feedback may be justified, I can recommend getting a second and a third opinion from colleagues. One should always consider the possibility that the person giving negative feedback may be right. Also, I know that some clients are satisfied with less-than-premium quality, but most clients expect perfection.

The CV, some parts you mentioned, I did on purpose. I didn't pay much attention to it as I'm willing to do tests. Yes, it's my fault. You're right I didn't have it proofread. The professional I work with is a PHD from the USA,who won't get paid for the job. So I try not to seek help. Chinese to English is not a taboo for me.
