Taking the ITI exam - sample questions needed

Hello

I want to sit the ITI (Institute of Translation and Interpreting http://www.iti.org.uk/ ) exam to get a certificate valid in the UK. ... but ITI doesn't publish past papers. Bear in mind that the ITI is a membership organisation, not a body that can award academic qualifications, so the exam simply admits you to membership of ITI - it's not a standalone qualification.

I'm not a member of ITI myself but I have asked about the exams recently and as I understand it, there are no questions, or even standard papers as such.
You have to give the ITI a subject matter (it could be anything - even obscure subjects that you may be an expert in like apiculture or medieval anthropomorphic pottery). You have to give the ITI a subject matter (it could be anything - even obscure subjects that you may be an expert in like apiculture or medieval anthropomorphic pottery). You then get sent a paper on this subject and your resulting translation gets marked on its merits. So it could be that you are the only one in your language pair with a paper on medieval anthropomorphic pottery for example. This is why there are no questions and by definition, no 'standard' past papers that could serve as an example of what you may have to do in your exam.

As Karen has mentioned, you may mean the DipTrans exam which comes from the Institute of Linguists. This is an exam taken under exam conditions and you can get hold of past papers through the publisher mentioned on the IoL website. This is an actual qualification with ECTS points as opposed to simply an entry requirement for membership to an organization so, from what you have said, it looks as though this is what you are looking for.

Except that the subjects are not as specialised as medieval anthropomorphic pottery. They're just things like marketing, mechanical engineering and accounting. There's really no way to prepare for the ITI exam except to gain translation experience if you don't already have it.
